Error:"xml file is missing in package" when installing new items

Sometimes, when you try to install a new template/component/plugin/module in Joomla 1.5, you may get an error message for a missing xml file in the package.

 

There are two common reasons for this error: 

  • The archive you are trying to install contains the actual installation package; i.e. there is an archive within the archive. The solution is simple - you should extract the archive and install the actual installation package.
  • You are trying to install an item which is not compatible with Joomla 1.5. Again, the solution is simple - you should enable Legacy mode in your Joomla 1.5 and then proceed with the installation.
