One of the steps during a Joomla 1.5 installation is the FTP configuration. If you wish to use this feature, you should fill the fields as follows:

Enable FTP File system Layer - Yes

FTP User: the FTP account you will be using

FTP Password: the password for the above FTP account

FTP Root Path: /public_html (if your Joomla is in a subdirectory within your web hosting account, you need to specify the path to the subdirectory - i.e. /public_html/subdirectory)

Under Advanced Settings you should type:

FTP Host: yourdomain.com

FTP Port: 21
