How to configure my VirtueMart shopping cart with my newly purchased private SSL?

You can do this within the VirtueMart settings. Goto:

Configuration --> Path & URL

In the SecureURL field write the secure URL for your shopping cart. For example:

https://www.yourdomain.com

From the "Shop areas which must use https" list, chose the modules of the shopping cart, that have to be accessed securely.
