I'm getting an error page when accessing SiteGround's cPanel using Internet Explorer 7 / Firefox 3

SiteGround's cPanel is configured to work with a shared / self-signed SSL certificate.

When you try to access your cPanel through yourdomain.com/cpanel, you will be redirected to log in to your account through a secure HTTPS connection.

Since the SSL certificate is self-signed, your browser will display a warning about a problem with the certificate. In fact, there is absolutely no security problem. The connection is still secure and you can safely disregard the warning.

However, both Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3 instead of a pop-up warning, show a whole error page notifying you about an SSL problem. To proceed to your cPanel, depending on your browser, you should:

  • If you are using Internet Explorer 7, once the error page opens, you should click Continue to this website (not recommended).

  • If you are using Firefox 3, once the error page opens, you should click Or you can add an exception… > Add Exception... Then, in the pop-up window you should click Get Certificate and then Confirm Security Exception. To avoid having to go through this procedure every time you access your cPanel through a secure connection, you should tick the Permanently store this exception  option available in the pop-up window.

Alternatively, you can avoid the SSL warnings by accessing your cPanel using  a normal HTTP connection. This can be done by logging in to your cPanel through:

http://cpanel.yourservername.com

 or

http://yourdomain.com:2082
