Why do I need Spam Killer?

The Spam Killer service uses an advanced technology to fight spam. It protects your e-mail accounts from spam messages and attached viruses.

When you order the Spam Killer service from your Customer Area->Order section, your domain's MX record will be pointed to a special server set up with a MailFoundry hardware email filter. This filter scans all incoming messages for spam and viruses. The viruses are removed and the spam messages are marked.

After the checks, the legitimate messages are delivered to your e-mail account and the messages marked as spam are forwarded to the corresponding SPAM folder. You will still be able to check them. The MailFoundry filter can be configured to discard the spam messages for your account per your request.

There are several advantages of using a hardware email filter such as MailFoundry compared to the SpamAssassin solution. MailFoundry is a completely separate hardware system. All the load of the incoming e-mails, including the analysis of the messages, is handled by the hardware filter and it does not influence the overall performance of the shared server where your web site is hosted.

The SpamAssassin tool is installed on the shared servers and if there are too many heavy requests towards this service, the load generated by it can have a negative impact on the overall server performance. Having the MailFoundry filter as a separate hardware system allows more heavy and resource consuming checks and analysis to be performed on the incoming messages. In this way you will be much better protected against spam attacks.

Additionally, the MailFoundry server has a technology to detect and remove viruses from the incoming e-mails. They will never get to your Inbox mail folder endangering your personal computer's security.
